Best Ikea Products for your Quilting and Sewing Room (2024)
Ikea. You either love it or hate it. I, for one, LOVE it. Ikea furniture is stylish and versatile. They also offer products at a great price. In this blog post, I will share all my favorite Ikea products for quilting and sewing. I will also offer plenty of storage solutions for those with a small sewing area. I have been lucky enough to have an entire room designated as a quilt studio and have several Ikea pieces filling my sewing studio.

Storage Containers
Ostbit
While technically made for the kitchen, the Ostbit bamboo plate holder is a perfect solution for storing acrylic rulers. By organizing the rules from smallest to largest, you can keep everything within reach and easy to see.
Samla
These Samla storage bins are what I use for storing my WIPs (works in progress). A clear container is key to being able to see exactly what’s inside so nothing is lost or forgotten. The Samla storage containers are available in several different sizes. The 3-gallon bins are a great size for storing all the fabric for a quilt, including the quilt backs and binding. Smaller bins are great for organizing precuts.
Klammemacka
Made of natural plywood, the Klammemacka desk organizer is so darn cute. Designed like an old-school sewing box, it’s great for quilters who take their work to different rooms.
Korken
I love these Korken glass jars for storing basting pins and wonder clips. I love that the lid seals tight to keep everything secure even if they get tipped over. These are also available in several sizes and designs so you can find the perfect fit for your organizing needs.
Saxborga
Straight from the bathroom department, this Saxborga vanity organizer is a great addition to your work area. It’s perfect for storing pins, clips, and bobbins. Plus, it comes with a cork tray to keep everything together while it sits next to your sewing machine.
Saxborga
While technically another vanity organizer, I think this Saxborga storage box would make a great sewing box. It’s complete with separated layers with compartments perfect for notions.
Kuggis
If you have a quilt magazine collection like I do or prefer printed paper quilt patterns, then a magazine file like this could be a great storage solution.
Wall Storage
Skadis
When it comes to utilizing wall space, the pegboard is where it’s at. The Skadis pegboard is what I have hanging over my cutting table. It gives me easy access to my rotary cutters and rulers. Ikea offers tons of accessories, making it incredibly versatile. The Skadis pegboard is ideal for those with more wall space than floor or table space.
Kungsfors + Hultarp
Another option for storing scissors is these magnetic knife blocks. They can be mounted to the wall and the strong magnet with hold most scissors and rotary cutters. The Kungsfors magnetic knife rack is stainless steel while the Hultarp magnetic knife rack is matte black.
Quilt Storage + Display
Parkla + Gorsnygg + Sackkarra
Technically, storing quilts in a bag like this is not ideal. However, it Is a great short-term solution, especially if you are traveling with a quilt or gifting a quilt and want to provide something to keep it safe. They fold up flat and are large enough to easily accommodate a bed-sized quilt. The Parkla storage case is a steal at only $1.99, while the Gorsnygg is $2.29, and the Sackkarra is $2.99.
Vitlo
Towel racks? You mean quilt ladder. This birch-colored ladder is such a stylish way to display your beautiful quilts.
Snidad
A beautiful, oversized basket is an easy way to display finished quilts. I love this Sindad basket design because it has a very large, open weave that will show off your quilts.
Rolling Storage
Raskog + Hogsma
The Raskog utility cart is an Ikea classic, and for good reason! This little storage cart, on wheels, is perfect for those with small sewing spaces. By adding the Hogsma “cutting board” you can create a work surface directly on top of the cart or store your sewing machine on top. At 16″ wide, it can accommodate most domestic sewing machines. When you’re ready to sew or quilt, just roll the cart to your living room or dining room and get to work! It also comes in different color options, so you can make sure it blends into your home decor.
Elloven
This memo board on wheels is what I use to store all of my magnetic fabric swatches. I love that it is large enough to hold both my Kona Cotton Solids and Art Gallery Fabric Pure Solids swatches. As a bonus, the backside can be used to pin fabric samples or as a mini design wall! It’s also on wheels, so you can move it to wherever it’s needed. I love to roll mine into natural light when choosing fabrics.
Bror
This rolling utility cart is another great solution for those working in a small space. Not only does it provide extra storage, but it has the added benefit of doubling as a cutting table or ironing station!
Furniture
Ivar
This Ivar shelving system is what I currently have in my studio. These are the perfect depth for storing bolts of fabric and they are completely versatile. I added cabinets to the bottom of mine to store most stuff out of sight and left the open shelving at the top for my books and fabric stash.
Linnmon or Lagkapten + Mittback
I paired the Linnmon tabletop with the Mittback trestle legs to create a cutting table. The Mittback legs are adjustable in height, so I can raise or lower my cutting surface. Having a cutting table set to the right height can make it much more comfortable and functional.
Kallax
The Kallax shelf unit is another Ikea classic. I have several of these through. my home, but most recently added one into the closet of my sewing room. Its cubby design is awesome for storing the Samla bins (for WIPs and fabric) and offers several inserts that make this shelf customizable.
Technology
Havrejoh
If you prefer to work with digital PDF quilt patterns, then a tablet holder like this Havrejoh may be an awesome addition to your workspace. Prop it up at your cutting table while you cut or set it next to your sewing machine while you piece quilt blocks.
Vappeby
A portable Bluetooth speaker is essential if you like to listen to podcasts or audiobooks while you work. These cute Vappeby speakers come in several colors and are a great deal at only $14.99.
